An abandoned hospital, a newborn child and a severed umbilical cord. It sounds like the beginning of a thriller. But for many parents it is an everyday reality. In recent years, conspiracy theories and half-baked myths have been making the rounds. From the need to leave the umbilical cord intact for an hour to dark stories about cosmetic companies clamoring for fresh placenta.
There is currently another status post making the rounds that has been in circulation at least since 2016. In this it says:
Did you know ⁉️ Do your own research❗❗❗
Kirill Rebjew: “ As a former doctor, I would like to tell you something...
There is a tacit and unofficial rule in the “maternity clinics - HOSPITALS” - to cut the umbilical cord immediately.
But you shouldn't do this under any circumstances❗❗❗ It's because at the moment of birth the newborn child is in a state of double breathing.
First of all, it gets oxygen and nutrients through the umbilical cord. His lungs are not yet fully activated, little by little he starts to gasp for air through his nose and thus slowly activates his lungs. What do the “doctors” do?
They cut the umbilical cord immediately after birth, thus cutting off the oxygen and nutrient supply.
The infant feels suffocation and begins to breathe heavily, trying to activate its lungs - it hurts! In addition - the blood that is in the placenta must pass into the infant❗ If the umbilical cord is cut immediately, the child will not receive sufficient blood immediately after birth.
However, the blood in the placenta contains the natural immunity spectrum for the child. That is, if the umbilical cord is cut immediately, the child is intentionally deprived of some of the natural immunity. Why ⁉️
Such a child who does not receive full immunity from the start will most likely have many problems with his health throughout his life.
This in turn means that the “medics” can now convince the parents that the child now needs vaccinations, tablets, mixtures and operations. The more UNhealthy children and people, the more clients “medicine” has. Nothing personal, it's just business. The umbilical cord should NOT be cut sooner than one hour after birth.
But the “doctors” don’t think about it. For good reasons, they want to get it over with as quickly as possible. The medical business wants the umbilical cord and placenta to remain as fresh as possible. Now the question - why does medicine need fresh placenta and umbilical cord?
Expensive medical and cosmetic preparations are made from their tissue.
This is one of the main reasons why the medical business does not want people to give birth at home, in an atmosphere that is homely and comfortable for them. If more and more people did it anyway, medicine would lose an important source of income." "This article not only serves to educate expectant mothers and fathers, but also for cosmetics enthusiasts who, in their ignorance, apart from all the chemicals, these cosmetic ingredients smear on her face.”

What is truth and what is fiction?
First, let's look at each sentence:
Sentence 1: There is a tacit and unofficial rule in the “maternity clinics – HOSPITALS” – to cut the umbilical cord immediately.
Fact check:
Untrue. There is no general “unofficial rule” to cut the umbilical cord immediately after birth. The decision about when to cut the umbilical cord is often based on the medical situation and the practices or preferences of the treating physician.
Sentence 2: You must not do this under any circumstances!!!
Fact check:
Untrue. While there are advantages to waiting to cut the umbilical cord, there are situations in which immediate cutting may be necessary for medical reasons.
Sentence 3: It is because at the moment of birth the newborn child is in a state of double breathing.
Fact check:
Untrue. The concept of “double breathing” is misleading. Before the baby is born, it receives oxygen through the placenta and umbilical cord. There is no phase in which both systems are operating at full capacity at the same time.
Sentence 4: First of all, it gets its oxygen and nutrients through the umbilical cord.
Fact check:
True. Before birth, the baby receives oxygen and nutrients through the umbilical cord.
Sentence 5: His lungs are not yet fully activated, little by little he starts to gasp for air through his nose and thus slowly activates his lungs.
Fact check:
Partly true. Before the baby is born, its lungs are filled with fluid. At birth, the baby begins to breathe, which expels lung fluid and causes the lungs to fill with air.
Sentence 6: You cut the umbilical cord immediately after birth, thus cutting off the oxygen and nutrient supply.
Fact check:
Partly true. Cutting the umbilical cord cuts off the supply of oxygen and nutrients from the placenta, but by this point the baby should have already started breathing and receiving oxygen through the lungs.
Sentence 7: The infant feels suffocation, begins to breathe heavily and tries to activate its lungs - that hurts!
Fact check:
Untrue. It is incorrect to say that cutting the umbilical cord causes “asphyxia.” Babies usually begin breathing immediately after birth, regardless of when the umbilical cord is cut.
Sentence 8: The blood that is in the placenta must pass into the infant!
Fact check:
Partially true. Delaying cutting the umbilical cord can allow more blood to flow from the placenta to the baby, which can have benefits. However, it is not absolutely necessary that “all” blood from the placenta passes into the baby.
Sentence 9: If the umbilical cord is cut immediately, the child will not receive sufficient blood immediately after birth.
Fact check:
Partly true. Delayed cutting of the umbilical cord can result in increased blood volume in the baby, but it is not the case that babies whose umbilical cord is cut immediately have “insufficient” blood.
Sentence 10: The blood in the placenta contains the natural immunity spectrum for the child.
Fact check:
True. The blood in the placenta actually contains antibodies from the mother, which provide the baby with temporary protection against diseases the mother has been exposed to.
Sentence 11: This means that if the umbilical cord is cut immediately, the child is intentionally deprived of some of the natural immunity.
Fact check:
Untrue. It is misleading to claim that this is done “intentionally,” as if there was malicious intent.
Sentence 12: Such a child who does not receive full immunity from the start will most likely have many problems with his health throughout his life.
Fact check:
Untrue. There is no evidence that babies whose umbilical cords are cut immediately will necessarily have “many health problems” over the course of their lives.
Sentence 13: This in turn means that the “medics” can now convince the parents that the child now needs vaccinations, tablets, mixtures and operations.
Fact check:
Untrue. There is no direct connection between the timing of cutting the umbilical cord and the need for vaccinations or other medical treatments.
In detail:
The myth of double breathing
The idea that newborns “breathe twice” has unsettled many parents. Some believe that cutting the umbilical cord immediately is harmful to the infant because it abruptly cuts off its oxygen source.
| Claims | Fact check |
|---|---|
| Newborns need oxygen and nutrients from the umbilical cord | During birth, the baby receives oxygen through the placenta, but after birth, the lungs are responsible. |
| The umbilical cord contains the natural spectrum of immunity | The child's immune system is supported by both the mother and breastfeeding, not just the umbilical cord. |
| A child without this immunity often gets sick | Many factors affect a child's health, not just the umbilical cord. |
The business line: medicine and cosmetics
There is speculation that the medical world and the cosmetics industry are “starving” for fresh placenta and umbilical cord. But how much of this is true?
| Claims | Fact check |
|---|---|
| Fresh placenta is used for cosmetic products | Some cosmetic companies use placenta in their products, but it often comes from animals rather than humans. From the 1950s to the 80s, placenta was also considered an anti-aging agent and was used in cosmetics. However, due to infectious diseases, people switched to chemical ingredients. |
| Hospitals sell placentas and umbilical cords | There is no concrete evidence that hospitals regularly sell placenta for cosmetic purposes. |
The ideal time to cut the umbilical cord
The medical community has its own views on when the umbilical cord should be cut. What does science say about this?
| Claims | Fact check |
|---|---|
| The umbilical cord should remain intact for at least an hour | There is no scientific basis for this specific duration. However, some studies recommend waiting a few minutes to give extra blood to the baby. |
At home or hospital: where should you give birth?
The place of birth is a personal decision. While some prefer the security of a hospital, others choose the comfort of their own home.
| Claims | Fact check |
|---|---|
| Hospitals Encourage Hospital Births to 'Harvest' Placenta | Most hospitals encourage hospital births because of medical safety and existing infrastructure. |
Conclusion
The birth of a child is a miracle surrounded by emotions, hopes and sometimes fears. While stories and myths can fascinate us, it is important to rely on science. Cutting the umbilical cord, use of the placenta, and location of birth are individual decisions. Don't let half-truths influence you. Be informed and make decisions that are best for you and your child.
