The claim is currently circulating on Facebook that the IOM would begin the “relocation of people” or the UN migration pact.

Photo in the wrong context: The photo shown has nothing to do with the UN migration pact. This is about these and similar status post messages:

It's starting.

The UN Migration Pact (relocation of people) is now being implemented by the IOM.

The fact check

The UN migration pact has nothing to do with this photo.

The photo was used in a situation report from June 2016 20min.ch in February 2017 and in an article on the IOM (International Organization for Migration) website. It shows a charter flight organized by IOM to repatriate stranded illegal Nigerian migrants from Libya to Nigeria. Almost all migrants were intercepted on their way to Europe.

IOM offers them the opportunity to voluntarily return to their respective country and organizes travel documents at the embassies and also the necessary medical treatment before departure as well as the return flight and possible family reunification.

The program has been running in Libya since 2006.

What is the UN Migration Pact?

the Bundestag's briefing note, the UN Migration Pact - actually the Global Treaty for Safe, Orderly and Regulated Migration - is intended to be "the first global agreement negotiated between governments under the aegis of the United Nations (UN) to cover all aspects of international migration."

The development process began in April 2017 and is based on the New York Declaration, according to which the topics of migration and refugees were debated for the first time in the UN General Assembly on September 19, 2016.

One point of the brief information also includes the resettlement program of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). This involves the resettlement or transfer of refugees from a country of asylum to a third country that has agreed to accept them permanently.

Resettlement refugees receive a residence permit in Germany in accordance with Section 23 Paragraph 4 of the Residence Act, which is usually initially issued for three years. However, as with all resettlements, it is assumed from the outset that the resettlement to Germany will be permanent.

Conclusion:

The photo is used in the wrong context and the description is also a bit confused.

As for the photo, it comes from the IOM's voluntary repatriation program; the Global Compact on Migration concerns something other than the resettlement program of the United Nations Refugee Agency.
