Companies currently receive emails from a company called “Global Contact”. Company data is offered to increase sales. But be careful: this is spam!

As Watchlist Internet reports, companies have to pay for that company's data, but probably do not receive any service or are only allowed to use the data to a very limited extent or not at all.

Companies in Austria receive the following email without being asked:

Good day,

After visiting your homepage, we would like to introduce you to an offer of products that will enable you to significantly increase the sales of your products and services.

I offer you the completely new address catalog of Austrian companies, which contains direct contact details of the company owners and managers.

The company databases are divided into target groups that are interesting and relevant to you.

The company details include:

Name of the company, email address, phone + fax number, zip code, city, street etc.

It's spam

The sending is a spam message. The transmission takes place en masse and indiscriminately. In addition, the message seems untrustworthy and although the recipient's homepage was visited according to the message, the receiving companies are not personally addressed. A search using the search engine also quickly shows that the company Global Contact is already known for sending out spam.

The website is not very trustworthy!

Anyone who follows the links in the mail and wants to access the website will most likely receive a warning from the browser. For example, in our test it was recognized that it was a URL from a spam message. In addition, you can find various certificates on the site that are intended to convey trustworthiness. If you try to check the certificates at the issuing institutions, you quickly find out that the certificates are not genuine and are incorrectly displayed.

Using received data can be problematic

In addition to the likelihood of not receiving any data at all when using the offer, there would also be the possibility of making yourself liable to prosecution by using the data. While the website claims that all data is GDPR-compliant, the email states that direct contact details of managers and company owners can also be found in the data to be purchased. However, this is personal data that may only be used if the data subject has explicitly agreed to this beforehand or if the data is freely accessible via the respective companies anyway. When using purchased data, extreme caution is required to avoid violating legal requirements.

Don't reply to the message

If you find the message in your own inbox, you should move it to the spam folder in order to train your own mail program that it is a spam message. Under no circumstances should you reply to the senders, as this only confirms that the receiving email address is working and can lead to even more mailings.

The Internet Watchlist recommends:

If you receive a similar email from Global Contact in your company, move the message directly to your spam folder. This can result in further messages being immediately recognized as spam.
