Red alert: SMS fraud masquerading as UPS delivery
Before you jump with anticipation over an upcoming show, take a closer look at this seemingly harmless message. Because in this case, fraudsters disguise themselves behind the trustworthy name of UPS.
Click traps hidden in links
In the text of the message, in addition to the information about an allegedly “blocked” package, there is a note that you should update your information. Conveniently, the corresponding link is included directly in the SMS.

It might still sound harmless and understandable, right? After all, when it comes to parcel deliveries, errors in the address or other problems with delivery can always occur. But the devil is in the details: “https://transport-gesicherer.de” is not a URL used by UPS.
Clicking on this link will take you to a fake page. The bait here is supposedly outstanding customs duties amounting to just a few euros. It can happen sometimes, and ultimately you want to receive your package. But don't be fooled because the links lead straight into the clutches of unscrupulous scammers.
Phishing in UPS guise
As soon as you click on the link and land on the fake website, your address details will be requested. In the next step you will be informed about the outstanding customs fees. You can immediately enter your credit card details and pay.

But here you do not confirm your data or your recipient address.
You also don't pay any fees of a few euros. No: Here all the data entered is accessed by the fraudsters. Sounds scary, right? The perpetrators are so skilled at posing as trustworthy companies that you could almost be fooled.
Attention, watch out: what to do if you've fallen for it?
Suppose you have already fallen into the customs fee trap, clicked on the link and entered your details. Don't panic - there are steps you can take to limit the damage:
- Inform your bank : If you have entered your bank or credit card details on the fake site, contact your bank or credit union immediately to prevent potential misuse. Have your credit card blocked.
- File a report : Report the scam to the police. Not only to protect yourself, but also to warn other potential victims.
Where did the scammers get my phone number?
Are you wondering how these crooks even get your data? Your email address and phone number could be from stolen databases or randomly generated. Take the self-test and check whether your data is at risk: Data check .
Conclusion
Protect yourself by being vigilant. If you receive a text message from UPS asking you to pay customs fees, think twice before clicking.
Do not be fooled. Your money and data are far too valuable to fall into the hands of criminals.
