A supposedly current article in “Brigitte” is causing a stir: Did a father want to sell his baby on the Internet because it had the “wrong hair color”? Welcome to the silly season!

This is how the article is teased on Facebook (pixelation by us):

“Dad wants to sell baby on the internet – because of “wrong” hair color”

...is the title of the article. Specifically, it's about a father wanting to sell his baby on a French classifieds platform for 100 euros (the video on the site says 1000 euros) because the parents would have preferred a blonde child, but the baby was red-haired.

Is that correct? Yes but…

...this is a good example of how the silly season can strike, and also an example of how a child's life can be made unpleasant because of clicks.

Is this current?

To do this, let’s look for sources. A French website from which “Brigitte” apparently took the video and translated it into German at least gives that impression. The site “ waouh.tv ” described this case in June 2018 and also provided screenshots of the classified ad, where you can see the date of the ad, May 9th, but no year.

Ad from May, article from June... so it gives the impression that it's current, right?
Incorrect ! This ad actually appeared on the French advertising portal in 2014 gentside.com ” reported about it at the time. It's interesting that the ad text can also be read on the page, the last sentence of the ad is that the baby is in good condition, even if he dropped it on his head several times, ending with "lol" (laughing out loud = laughing out loud).

Serious ad?

From the way the baby is described more like an object than a human being (it was under the heading "Furniture"), coupled with tasteless jokes and some people's dislike of redheads (which the author personally doesn't empathize with at all). can and will never understand), one can assume that the ad creator probably wanted to be “funny” and thereby achieved the absolute opposite.
In 2016, the French website “ Jetaimemaman ” reported on this ad again, but at least made the baby unrecognizable and reported that the creator of the ad was under police investigation.

A hodgepodge of strange advertisements

the “ Le Bon Coin ” platform, known in France for unusual classified ads, has hit the headlines. Back in 2012 , a father allegedly tried to sell his baby there. The background to the story at the time was that it had “the wrong skin color”… the man actually discovered that his wife had cheated on him and that the child was from another man.

Leave the child alone!

Dear “Brigitte” and other tabloids,

We know it's silly season. It's not easy for you to find current events that generate a lot of clicks. However, that child is now at least 4 years old. They may be going to kindergarten or preschool right now. The similarities between this red-headed baby and the child should still be easy to see.
So why are you dragging the image of that baby through the media without being pixelated Have you ever thought that this might be brought up? That it will be teased because dad wanted to sell it on the Internet?

Are your clicks that much more important to you than the well-being of a small child?
