The Hungarian Prime Minister's face on a dog salami? It may be hard to believe, but there is actually a photo that has been making the rounds on social media for several years. It shows a sausage with the face of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on it. And the strange thing: It is said to be a dog salami that is sold in Germany.

The original photo: A children's sausage without a political face
Our research has shown that the photo is actually of a meat product. However, not from a dog salami, but from a sausage for children. This product is sold under the name “ Billy ” and does not contain political portraits, but rather various child-friendly images.
A German comedian and the Eurovision sausage
The origin of image manipulation goes back to a German comedian named “Bembers”. He edited the image in 2014 and added the face of the Austrian artist Conchita Wurst, who won the Eurovision Song Contest that same year.

- The edited image quickly spread on social media, with many users ignoring the original copyright and not mentioning the image's origin.
- Bembers then felt compelled to publish a video in which he shows the process of editing the image and supports his claim to authorship.
Viktor Orbán and sausage selfies: The new image manipulation
Later, the already edited image of Bembers was manipulated again and Viktor Orbán's face was mounted on the sausage. The image spread with the misleading claim that it was a dog salami available in Germany.
- It is clear to see that the manipulation was carried out based on Bembers' image. Both versions of the sausage packaging say “Conchita Wurst”.
- The image was shared several times on Facebook, often accompanied by critical comments against Viktor Orbán and his political views.

A Divided Audience: Humor or Scandal?
While some internet users took the image as a joke or recognized that it had been manipulated, others took the post seriously and expressed their outrage. For example, one Facebook comment read: “This is a shame for us Hungarians,” while another simply said: “That says it all!
Conclusion: a case of fake news?
The photo was definitely manipulated. It is not a real dog salami with Viktor Orbán's face on it that is sold in German supermarkets. Rather, it is an image that was originally edited by a German comedian to show Conchita Wurst's face, and which was later edited again to show Viktor Orbán.
It's an instructive example of how images and stories on social media can be distorted and taken out of context. Sometimes they develop a momentum of their own that goes far beyond their original purpose. And sometimes a harmless children's sausage becomes a political statement.
With that in mind, don't be lulled by every sausage you see on social media. Sometimes there is more than it seems - or less.
