The claim

Allegedly the mayor of Kiev and former boxer Vitali Klitschko sent his wife Natalia Klitschko with their three children to Germany. The German government provided his family with a villa near Berlin free of charge and provided them with around-the-clock protection. In addition, the Klitschko family transferred all of their assets from Ukraine to German banks. This report is clearly denied by both the federal government and the TZ.

Vitali Klitschko lives in Kiev and has been mayor there since May 2014. Together with his brother Vladimir, also a former boxing world champion, he is one of the most prominent representatives of the Ukrainian resistance against the occupation of the city of Kiev and Ukraine by Russian troops. He has been married to the artist Natalia Klitschko since 1996. The two have three children.

The fake article

The article in question, which is shared as a supposed screenshot of the TZ website, has many elements of a real online article from the Munich daily newspaper “tz”, but also major differences that should make even non-readers of the newspaper suspicious.

Reaction from the “tz” publisher

A spokesman for Ippen Media, which publishes “tz,” stated on March 15 that this screenshot was a fake ( HERE ). “We have never published an article like this.” There is also no article with similar content on the tz website. There are also errors in the layout and coloring. A “block of text in bold above the article image, plus no paragraphs” would not appear in “tz” ( HERE ).

This is also shown by a direct comparison of the fake article and a real article on the “tz” website. Here is a comparison between the fake tz report on the left and the screenshot of an actual published article on the website on the right. The link to the original article is HERE .

Another, albeit quite hidden, indication of a fake can be found in the menu bar, i.e. the bar where the permanent categories of the website are listed. The rider PARODY can be seen in the fake article. Highlighted by the red box in the left image. This could indicate a satirical background to the article. However, a serious German medium would certainly not have used the English term parody, but rather a German term such as satire. The German translation of Parody would also not be appropriate in this context. There is therefore some evidence to suggest that the article was not falsified by a native German speaker.

Reaction from the Federal Ministry of the Interior

The fake article claims that Natalia Klitschko and her children left Kiev, which was under heavy attack, that the federal government had allocated her a villa in Berlin free of charge and that the family was being watched around the clock by order of the Interior Ministry.

In an email to AFP on March 15, a spokesman for the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) said that there was no known allocation of a villa to Natalia Klitschko and therefore there was no “order from the BMI to monitor” this accommodation. “It is false information.” ( HERE )

Where does Natalia Klitschko live with her children?

Natalia Klitschko's presence on social networks also shows no evidence that she is permanently staying in Berlin with her family. On the contrary. Especially in March, you can see an increasing number of status updates, mainly from the region around Hamburg ( HERE , HERE and HERE ). Hamburg is listed as her place of residence in her Instagram bio. Her artist agency is also based in Hamburg ( HERE ).

The picture used in the fake article also shows Natalia Klitschko on March 5th at a demonstration against the war in Ukraine in Hamburg. available for purchase

as an agency photo, for example HERE While the fake article says that she lives in Berlin with her three children, she herself pointed out on the NDR talk show that one of the sons is currently at a boarding school in England ( HERE ). So she can't live in Berlin with three children. Older reports on Vitali Klitschko also state that the family lives in Hamburg ( HERE , HERE , HERE ).

Natalia Klitschko herself has not yet commented on this fake. However, there are many indications that Natalia Klitschko has lived in Hamburg with her family for many years. There is no mention of Berlin anywhere. Not even in the current situation

Conclusion

The supposed screenshot of a “tz” article is fake or shows a fake article.
The publisher that publishes the “tz” denies its authenticity.

No such or similar article ever appeared on the “tz” site. In addition, the graphic design of the article does not correspond to the standardized layout of “tz”. The Federal Ministry of the Interior denies that a villa was provided free of charge for Natalia Klitschko and her children in or near Berlin. All information available online says that Vitali Klitschko's family has been living in Hamburg for many years.

There is no publicly available information on any of the Klitschkos' financial transactions. However, since the entire article is fake and two main statements are false, it can be assumed that this claim is also false.
