The first interested parties get in touch quickly and ask for a telephone number. This is followed by SMS messages in the name of Vinted, which request confirmation of the credit card details in order to receive the payment. Attention: The SMS do not come from vinted.at, but from criminals and the supposed confirmations lead to debits from your accounts, warns our cooperation partner Watchlist Internet !
Beware of scams
You can buy and sell used clothing on the classifieds platform vinted.at, which specializes in fashion. At the moment, you have to be careful of scams, especially as a new customer. Shortly after you publish your first advertisement, criminals may contact you and pose as an interested party. In order to process the purchase “safely” and easily, you will be asked for your telephone number.

Shortly afterwards you will receive messages on behalf of Vinted itself. The goods have been paid for and you only need to confirm your credit card to receive the payment. Links will direct you to a replica Vinted website.
Caution: Check web addresses before entering sensitive data. , instead of going to “ vinted.at ”, enter your data on “vinted-at. reservation1234.bid “ one!
If you enter your payment details on such a fake website, they will end up directly in the hands of criminals. These are then used to trigger payment orders.
Do not transmit TANs and do not approve payments in your banking app!
In order for the payments commissioned by the criminals to be carried out, they need your mobile TAN codes or approval of the payments via your banking apps. To do this, they write you further messages on behalf of Vinted, claiming that approval via your banking app is only necessary to receive payment for your product and confirm your identity. This request will be repeated until you cancel contact or your credit card is blocked.

Caution: Never pass on mobile TANs and do not release payments via your banking app that you have not initiated yourself! Without exception it is a scam.
How do you protect yourself from this scam?
- No phone number is required to sell via Vinted. Avoid submitting if possible.
- Do not follow links in messages from interested parties.
- No approval is required in your banking apps to receive payments.
- Check the web address for accuracy when entering payment information.
- Never transmit mobile TANs and do not release payments in your banking apps without wanting to initiate a payment yourself.
What can you do as a victim of this scam?
If you have become a victim of this scam, your options for action are unfortunately very limited. In any case, contact your bank or credit card provider and ask about the options for reversing the amounts. However, due to the approval via your banking app or the transmission of the TAN codes, you can usually only aim for a goodwill solution.
In addition, we must advise you to report the matter to the police. Unfortunately, the chances of getting your money back are very slim.
