“Viola Walk Home” is a service offered to ensure a feeling of security on the way home. The Italian start-up writes on its website that its goal is to combat gender-based violence.
It offers a special form of support on the way home: namely via video call.
Many women, including trans people and other marginalized groups, have already had the experience of being harassed. It is understandable that it feels even worse on the way home alone at night than with many people during the day. The same goes for the fact that these people feel fear here.
Accompanied by a volunteer
Now “Viola Walk Home” offers a service to help people who don’t feel safe on the way home. These people are accompanied on their way home – via video call.
“If you’re out and about and don’t feel safe, send us a direct message and we’ll start a video call.”
So if you have a journey home in front of you that you would like to be accompanied on, send a direct message to the Instagram account @violawalkhome in which you state your language, the city you are traveling in and the planned route. You also specify the time when you will set off.
A volunteer from “Viola Walk Home” will then contact you and accompany you the whole way home via video call.
“Viola Walk Home’s video calling service is provided by volunteers who have been carefully selected and trained by our team. This service is run thanks to the people who sacrifice their time to make our streets safer,” informs “Viola Walk Home” on Instagram.
