While browsing the Internet last weekend, a 59-year-old from Wetterau ended up on pages with pornographic content.
Virus attack?! Warning from Microsoft? Caution!
During the visit to the relevant portals, a window opened that contained a message supposedly sent by Microsoft that the PC was infected with viruses. He should therefore immediately contact a Microsoft employee by telephone at the number provided. The frightened man did so and spoke to the alleged employees of the software company. They made him implement certain inputs on the PC and let him believe that this was done to remove the unwanted viruses. Instead, they apparently spied on his online banking data and made several payments worth almost 900 euros until the fraud was noticed. The fraudsters cheated a 68-year-old from the Giessen district out of several thousand euros.
Further cases known
A window also opened on this man's computer at the weekend with a message about a virus infection, supposedly from Microsoft. Here, too, a telephone number was given that Grünberger contacted. The fraudsters demanded remote access to the computer in order to install measures against the alleged malware and thus obtained the man's bank details and access data to his accounts.
By the time he noticed the fraud around 8 p.m., transactions worth around 6,600 euros had been made, some of which he was able to reverse. Information on how to protect yourself from this rip-off and measures you can take if it does happen can be found on the Internet https://www.polizei-beratung.de/themen-und-tipps/betrug/falsche-microsoft-arbeiter/ .
