It often happens that users receive strange virus warnings while surfing on their smartphone. But these reports are not real warnings!
Something like this seems to warn these messages, which appear over the displayed website:

“Apple iPhone is infected with viruses and immediate action is required. Go ahead and follow the instructions to repair your Apple iPhone. Do not close this window. Quit at your own risk.”
Not a warning, but scareware
These pop-ups, which are technically advertising, are also called “ scareware ” from the English to scare = to frighten. These messages only make you believe that there are viruses on your smartphone so that you click “Okay”.
This happens when you confirm the report
This is how the actual “virus” is installed. This is often supposed protection software, which, however, usually reads your cell phone data and sends expensive SMS messages on its own. Sometimes there are subscription traps behind it, so it is safer to set up a third-party lock .
“Sometimes I get these messages on your site too!”
In fact, such reports also appear on reputable sites, even Mimikama. This happens when the creators of this scareware manage to inject it into large advertising networks as advertising. This scareware, disguised as advertising, is usually removed from these networks after a short time, but unfortunately it always manages to sneak in. And since our site also displays advertising through such networks, Mimikama is unfortunately sometimes affected.
Here's what to do when you see these warnings
- Close the browser app.
- Open your smartphone's settings.
- Tap “Applications” (on some devices this is also called “Application Manager”, “Apps” or similar).
- Find your browser app that you use to access the Internet and tap it.
- In the Storage section, tap Clear Data. Note: this will cause already open tabs and possibly saved form data to disappear.
- If you use different browsers, repeat this with all the others to be on the safe side.
- Such ads can also be triggered by apps. So consider whether you may have installed new apps before the messages appeared and delete them again.
It can't hurt to think about a proper antivirus app. Ad blockers also prevent advertising from being displayed. However, this also threatens website operators with a loss of income, and some have already blocked their websites from users with ad blockers.
If you install apps, it's best to only install them from the Google Play Store. You can set your cell phone to only allow apps to be installed from there. To do this, tap “Device Security” (or similar) in “Settings”. “Unknown sources” must not be ticked or the slider must be set to “off”.
