According to information from Volksbank Darmstadt, there was a phishing app in the Google Playstore that was intended to imitate the Volksbank.

The most important thing about the Volksbank warning in brief:

  • Volksbank Darmstadt warns of fake app
  • App collects access data
  • The app has now been deleted, but the danger can recur again and again

Phishing is nothing more than the modern bank robbery. Fraudsters do not directly steal the money from the people being robbed, but rather try to get access data to their accounts.

This usually happens with the help of fake emails, but can also be done via fake apps. The Volksbank Darmstadt-Südhessen has published a warning about this on Facebook. There you read:

[mk_ad]

A phishing app called “VROnline” from “azzaliaapps” is currently available for download from the Google Play Store.
This app is NOT from us and may be an attempt to obtain sensitive data.
Please delete it immediately if you have installed the app.

The official VR banking app can be downloaded here:

We are currently in contact with Google to have the phishing app deleted

A corresponding search in the Playstore shows that the contact with Google was apparently successful. The malicious app no longer exists. Nevertheless, the informative note in the warning about which apps represent the bank's official software still applies.

Volksbank gives general tips on phishing :

Fraudsters send a calendar entry with various links under the pretext of a technical change
We warn again about phishing emails with which fraudsters send a calendar entry with various links under the pretext of a technical change in the bank's banking or internal IT system (bank migration). . The additional problem is that this calendar entry could automatically end up in the calendar even if it has already been recognized as spam.

Fraudsters try to get personal data or confidential information
Using the various links in the calendar entry of the phishing email, fraudsters try to get credit card details, access details for the recipient's online banking and other confidential information.

Technical changes in banking - temporary restrictions and changes
Technical changes to internal bank systems may lead to temporary restrictions on cash withdrawals and cashless payments with the girocard (debit card) as well as on self-service devices (transfer terminal, account statement printer, ATM) and in online banking and online brokerage come. However, it is under no circumstances necessary to register again or change your PIN or enter credit card details or other confidential information.

Do not respond to the fraudsters' demands and do not pass on any data.
Recipients of such emails should not respond to the demands, should not click on links in emails or calendar entries and should not log in to the supposedly new system or pass on data. If you have already registered again or provided your data, we recommend that you block your account or online banking immediately. To do this, use the following link “Block card and online banking”.

In these cases you should contact your own bank directly.
