The claim
A screenshot purports to show that the English spelling of the Ukrainian president's name means "evil rules the world."
Our conclusion
The name was divided into pieces, letters were swapped and omitted until a desired result appeared - although the name already has a meaning.
decoded "Volodymyr Zelenskyy" as "Evil rules the world" *giggle* believe that Google Translate is actually some kind of digital, magical oracle that you just have to feed various combinations of a name for as long as you want to find out the truth™ behind it.
The Zelenskyy name oracle
A four-second video (actually just a four-second screenshot) shared on Twitter and Facebook , purports to show the brutal truth™ that has been hidden from all of us:

The name of the Ukrainian president in English spelling means “Evil rules the world”, in German: “Evil rules the world”. If you write it backwards. And divides. And also leaves out a few letters. #you have to know
We'll try to understand it!
But we are immediately disappointed because we don't get the same result as in the video/screenshot:

Well, that was nothing. The Google Translate screenshot appears to have been manipulated. But maybe we can get the result differently?
- Google Translate translates “zele” as “bad” or “evil”, i.e. “evil” – although the source language is Croatian, because the word does not exist in Ukrainian
- “nsky” cannot be translated
- “volod” is translated as “owner” – although the original language is Tajik
- “myr” is translated as “peace”
Hm. That's rather strange when put together: “The evil owner of peace”? Okay, we give up. YouTube, explain it to us!
Ahaaa, so you have to rearrange and delete the letters in “Volodymyr Zelenskyy” in Google Translate until that is displayed as the result at some point! That sounds very logical, right?
Why so complicated when the meaning of the name is known?
Let's ignore the fact that you can conjure up any result from any name in any language, as long as you simply rearrange and leave out the letters as often as you like, that's of course pretty nonsense. In addition, the gimmick completely ignores the fact that names almost always have some meaning anyway.
The Müller means, of course, Müller, the Nowotny is “the new (man) in the village”, so similar to the German Neumann, the tub maker made tubs and so on. It can be very interesting to research the origins of your first and last name!
Then let's see what it looks like with Volodymyr Zelenskyy or Volodymyr Selenskyj or Володимир Зеленський:
- Ironically, “Vladimir” and “Volodymyr” are variants of the same Slavic root word, whether spelled with a V or a W. The former is the Russian form of the name, the latter the Ukrainian. The name means “leader” or “power, rule”.
- Zelenskyy or Selenskyj is easier to decipher : it is the settlement name for someone from a place called Zelenki in Ukraine, whose name in turn is based on the word “zelenyy” for “green”.
So Volodymyr Zelenskyy is basically the mighty one from the green (if you want to interpret it in some way).
Conclusion
So this Google Translate gimmick is nonsense anyway. The fact that the word “zele” does not exist in Ukrainian, but can only be translated as “evil” in Korean, shows this well. enter “zele” in the correct Cyrilic (i.e. зеле), you will get “Greens” in the sense of “vegetables” as the result – although the source language is Bulgarian.
But “Vegetables rule the world” doesn’t sound that impressive, does it?

Also interesting: The screenshot of an old headline is being spread in relevant circles to discredit Ukraine: The country is said to have operated the largest child pornography ring in 2012.
But sometimes Google isn't right... - Ukraine didn't run the largest child pornography ring in 2012!
