There are always trick thieves in places of tourist interest who pose as police officers to visitors to Berlin.

The Berlin police warn against fake police officers!

The fraudsters usually act in groups of three and work in a division of labor, with one of the perpetrators first approaching the victim and asking for directions, for example. Then the other two perpetrators approach the victim, pretend to be police officers and search the victim, usually under the pretense of looking for drugs. They steal cash and credit cards unnoticed.

How to protect yourself from such trick thefts:

  • Only take as much cash with you as you need.
  • Never mention the PIN number. of credit cards.
  • Always ask police officers to show you your ID card.

But it's not just tourists who should be careful; fake police officers also gain access to apartments:

Wrong uniform, wrong phone numbers, fake break-ins and still inspiring trust: This is how fake police officers try to gain access to your apartment in order to ultimately steal cash and valuables from you. The perpetrators are usually not as easy to recognize as in the picture.

Our advice:

  • Do not store large amounts of cash at home.
  • Do not let strangers into the apartment.
  • Ask for help from people you trust (family, neighbors,
    caretaker)
If in doubt, call the police emergency number 110 immediately!
