Lower Saxony Consumer Center warns against rip-offs: With energy prices, the demand for firewood and pellets has also risen noticeably. In many places, stocks have already been sold out and orders are no longer being accepted. Dubious providers know how to use this for their own benefit. Not only are there more and more offers online at horrendous prices, but there are also increasing numbers of fake shops. The Lower Saxony Consumer Center advises you to take a closer look and explains when it is better not to place an order.

“We already saw during the Corona crisis that dubious providers were taking advantage of the situation for their own benefit. Back then, fake shops selling garden items, beach chairs and bicycles sprouted up like mushrooms. Now we are experiencing the same phenomenon with firewood, firewood and wood pellets.”

Kathrin Körber, legal expert at the Lower Saxony Consumer Center.

And further:

“The shops are constantly changing their names. We can therefore only advise caution: no matter how tempting the offer is, consumers should take a closer look and check the shop before ordering.” It usually helps to enter the name into a search engine. If there are already complaints, that is a clear sign.

Current examples of firewood & pellets – fake shops

Examples of fake shops currently include buhler-energie.co m and bitterlich-brennholz.com .

Both shops are well done and have a full imprint. “On closer inspection, however, it becomes apparent that the sites are not hosted in Germany, have only been online for a short time and have also been listed as fake shops several times ,” explains the legal expert.

The Lower Saxony Consumer Center provides information about current fake shops on its website in the “ Beware of Traps ” section. Further information on how to recognize fake shops can be found at www.verbraucherzentrale-niedersachsen.de/fake-shops-enttarnen
