A consumer should pay around 960 euros for a supposedly commissioned landline telephone and Internet connection with a term of two years. The Hamburg consumer advice center has therefore successfully warned Vodafone. Consumer advocates have already taken action against the telecommunications provider several times because of foisted contracts.
Contract conclusion as if by magic
“If you don’t order anything, you don’t have to pay anything!” explains Julia Rehberg from the Hamburg Consumer Center. But the opposite was the case for a Vodafone customer from southern Germany. She had neither spoken to employees of her telecommunications provider on the phone nor contacted the company in person or in writing and yet received an order confirmation for the “Vodafone CableMax 1000” product by email. From June 2022 to June 2024, she was supposed to pay around 960 euros for a landline telephone and internet connection for which she had already signed a contract. “But since this contract only runs until mid-September 2022, Vodafone apparently wanted to get down to business and tried to foist a new 24-month contract on the consumer for the same tariff,” explains Rehberg. However, the customer should forego the router that was originally provided.
Annoyance and effort due to foisted contracts
Although the consumer concerned revoked the supposedly concluded contract in writing as a precautionary measure on the day the order confirmation was sent and again 14 days later, Vodafone remained inactive and did nothing to clarify the case. The monthly amount of 39.99 euros was collected via SEPA direct debit.
“We regularly receive complaints from those affected who invest time and effort in defending themselves against invoices for which there is no contractual basis,” reports Rehberg. Vodafone in particular has repeatedly attracted negative attention in recent years.
Inform consumer advice center
Consumers who have problems with Vodafone Deutschland GmbH should inform the Hamburg consumer advice center. If the telecommunications provider untruthfully confirms the conclusion of contracts for the “Vodafone Cable Max 1000” product in the future, it will have to pay a contractual penalty. A complaint form and further information about this and other Vodafone cases can be found on the website of the Hamburg Consumer Center at: www.vzhh.de/vodafone .
