What is behind the fraudulent emails?
These fake emails are headed “ Mandate for Legal Proceedings .” Through the use of official logos and wordmarks, these letters appear authentic and trustworthy at first glance. The contents of the letter inform the recipients, who are not named, that an arrest warrant or legal proceedings have been initiated against them for several criminal cases. There is a threat of possible prison sentences of up to 35 years and fines of up to 250,000 euros. Recipients are given 72 hours to respond by email or face charges.

But be careful: this is an act of preparation for fraud. The emails do not come from the Federal Police. The aim of these so-called spam emails is to obtain personal data and persuade the recipient to make some kind of payment.
What should you do if you receive such an email?
If you have also received such an email, you should under no circumstances respond to it or even pay any amount that may be requested. Instead, you should report the incident to the local police and delete the email immediately.
Email scams are a common scam and it is important to be vigilant and protect yourself. Be aware that officials would never make demands for money or threaten imprisonment via email without first contacting you by telephone or in writing. Be skeptical and watch out for suspicious signs. Better safe than sorry.
We at Mimikama always strive to educate our readers about current scams and help them navigate the digital space safely. Stay vigilant and don't be intimidated by scammers.
