The tactics used by telephone scammers are diverse and constantly evolving. In Lower Saxony, the State Pharmacists Association (LAV) is again warning of telephone scammers who pose as a “pharmacist association”. This time the criminal strategy revolves around selling pills and pharmacy vouchers. The LAV has taken legal action in this context and filed a complaint.

A call from the “Pharmacists’ Association” – or not?

According to LAV, several private individuals have received calls made on behalf of a “pharmacist association.” These calls come either from a blocked number or from a so-called 0800 number. The callers offer tablets for sale over the phone or ask whether the pharmacists' association has already contacted them and whether they have received a pharmacy voucher worth 39.90 euros. They also specifically ask for the contact details of those they are calling.

LAV makes it clear: “It’s not us!”

“These calls are not calls from the Lower Saxony State Pharmacists Association,” warns the LAV. As the political and economic representation of the interests of pharmacy owners in Lower Saxony, the LAV is primarily there for its members. “The LAV neither contacts patients to ask for their contact details nor does it offer pharmacy vouchers. We therefore strongly advise against giving out personal information to callers or even accepting purchase offers!

A well-known fraud scheme

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that telephone scammers have posed as a “pharmacist association”. The LAV warned against this scam several times last year. Nevertheless, private individuals have again received calls “on behalf of the pharmacists’ association” with an 0800 number asking them to buy preparations and asking them about their state of health.

Together against the telephone fraudsters

As last time, the LAV is asking those affected to help. If they receive such calls, they should note and provide the LAV with any information that could lead to the identification of the perpetrators. This is the only way to take further legal action against telephone fraudsters and effectively protect the population from such attempted fraud.
