On Wednesday afternoon (May 18), the police became aware of several cases of fraudulent payment requests in which electricity customers received fake bills. There has been no financial damage so far.

Fraudsters are currently throwing obviously fake invoices into the mailboxes of victims. In the letters, the respective addressees are asked to transfer 13 euros once. The letterhead of the payment requests is labeled “Energy Security Monitoring and Inspection Center” and appears to be genuine.

However, the company does not act on behalf of the regional energy suppliers and after reading it carefully, it quickly becomes apparent that it is a fake. The letters were delivered unpaid by post to an indeterminate group of people and without a personal address. The wording is unprofessional and contains spelling errors.

Do not follow up on payment requests!

The victims of various age groups have so far acted correctly and contacted the police without initiating a referral. In this context, the police expressly warn against making payments - even small amounts - carelessly and recommend that you check such letters carefully and, if in doubt, always contact the electricity provider or the local police station.

When it comes to spam and fraud variants, insurance and electricity are currently very popular! Those affected by telephone spam speak of being “cheeky”, “aggressive”, “pushy” and report that spam callers are unfriendly ( we have reported ). the consumer advice center reporting on so-called electricity rip-offs who are suddenly showing up on the doorstep.
