If there were such huge mosquitoes or gnats, wouldn't we have heard about them in the news by now? Wouldn't there be warnings for regions where they are native?
We see this picture on the Facebook page “The Language Nerds” . And yes, the question is certainly justified.

In any case, the type of sign does not come from our latitudes.
And where do you encounter this mosquito warning?
In Alaska, more precisely: Denali. But don't worry, you won't be kidnapped by mosquitoes here. Because the background of this sign shows a very special humor.
The road near Denali National Park that takes you to Grande Denali Lodge is over 1 mile long and climbs to an elevation of over 2,000 feet.
Since this road is extremely curvy, speeds above approximately 10mph (approx. 16kmh) are often not possible or at least not advisable. The drivers should concentrate on the road, but it can get very boring at times because of the snail's pace.
But these signs are intended to change that.
Entertainment and security
On the one hand, the signs provide entertainment while driving at a more leisurely pace. On the other hand, they actually encourage travelers to slow down, says Dennis Brandon, owner of Brandon Marketing Strategies, who was hired by the owner of the Denali Grande Hotel to create those signs.
Wait, SchildER? Plural? Yes, because this “mosquito sign” is not the only one on this street . This also warns of falling coconuts, approaching moose or other possible encounters.
The warning signs should therefore be viewed with humor rather than actually having to worry about being kidnapped by giant mosquitoes. Dennis Brandon adds that the only real danger is “if you stop to photograph a grizzly bear up close.”
