Currently affected are the law firm Böhmert and Böhmert or the law firm Wilde Beuger Solmecke, on whose behalf false warnings are being sent!

Scammers pretend to be a law firm!

Scammers send fake warning letters about alleged copyright infringements. These letters are fake and contain download links with dangerous malware !

Not only have we reported about it, but our cooperation partner Watchlist-Internet has also reported on it! Numerous Internet users and website operators are currently receiving supposed warning letters because of alleged copyright infringements on behalf of real law firms. For example, criminals pose as the Böhmert und Böhmert law firm or the Wilde Beuger Solmecke law firm.

Note: The letters are fake and contain download links with dangerous malware !

Beware of fake warning letters about alleged copyright infringements. Criminals use the names of real law firms and send mass amounts of emails demanding large amounts of money. The emails are as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,
on behalf of and on behalf of my client, we hereby demand that our client's intellectual property be protected in accordance with §§ 99, 23 11 No. 4, 82 10, 12c UrhG, §§ 23, 10 11 No. 4 StPo without theirs to make the necessary direct consent freely available online on the Internet or to distribute it in some other way and to undertake to secure this injunctive relief in order to
pay a legally binding contractual fee of €9,539.93 in the event of future violations.
In the interest of an amicable and out-of-court settlement of the legal matter, our client offers you to resolve the present case comprehensively by means of a settlement.
By paying our client any claims due to the copyright infringement committed by paying a settlement amount. Please refer to the created archive for a list of the comparative offer.
If you encounter any problems, please review the documents on your computer.

The law firms – here lawyer Dr. Torsten Walter – have nothing to do with the letters. The data is misused by criminal senders to give the impression of genuine warning letters.

What's behind the scammers' emails?

The emails have only one purpose: to infect your system with malware. The emails themselves do not mention what exactly you were guilty of or who the law firm represents. For more details on this you will need to follow a link in the message. When you click on the link, you should immediately confirm a file download!

The downloaded files

The compressed file, which you download by clicking on the link in the email, contains two files, a PDF document and a Javascript file.

The files in the ZIP file
The files in the ZIP file

While the PDF file cannot be opened because it is corrupted, the Javascript file named “KOSTENOTE” can cause a lot of damage. When you double-click, various Trojans are downloaded from the Internet and installed on the PC!

Do not agree to such processes if you cannot be 100 percent sure about the seriousness of the person you are speaking to. In this case, you are downloading malware – more precisely, a Trojan. Executing the file can, in the worst case scenario, render your system unusable or allow criminals access to sensitive data.

How can you protect yourself from such scams?

Always keep your system up to date. Additionally, never turn off your firewall or virus protection . This is usually the best way to protect yourself from such infiltration attempts. Also, do not follow links in messages whose sender you do not know. For example, visit the websites of the law firms mentioned in the emails. In this specific case, they themselves warn about the dangerous mass emails in their name.
