Your parents have incurred debts and you have to pay them? No panic! Here you will find a sample text with which you can defend yourself against this.
What do you do if the state wants money from you? (Fact check) – The most important thing to start with: Are you not yet of legal age and are you being asked to pay debts caused by your parents? You shouldn't just accept this.

Pay your parents' debts?
Imagine you are not yet 18 and you receive a letter from an authority, for example from the employment agency. It says that you and your parents received too many social benefits. You should now pay the debts that your parents caused. Sounds unfair? We think so too. And that's why you shouldn't just pay like that!
Letter to the relevant authority
An estimated 750,000 children and young people in Germany are said to be responsible for debts caused by their parents. If you, as a child or young person, have no money with which to pay the debts, the authorities must find out. To do this, you should respond with a corresponding letter. In it you can write the following (of course you have to enter the corresponding numbers for xx):

Ladies and Gentlemen
You are making a claim against me for €xx. I will turn 18 on xx.xx.xxxx and hereby file an objection to the limitation of liability for minors in accordance with Section 1629a of the German Civil Code (BGB). I have no assets whatsoever. For this reason, I ask you not to pursue the claim against me any further and to send me a corresponding confirmation message.
Best regards
Once you have sent this letter to the authorities, you should have dealt with the issue first. But not your parents, because the debt is still there. However, if you continue to be asked to pay, you should seek help. Various institutions offer help with money problems free of charge - including the North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Advice Center .

It's also worth going to a counseling center if you have other money problems - for example, if your parents have taken out a cell phone contract in your name and bills still need to be paid. It is important that you look for an officially recognized position. If a “debt counselor” offers you money to pay off your debts, that is more likely to be a loan shark and not reputable!
