Fact check: Are Tesla, BASF & Co. taking away our water?
A contribution from VOLLBILD. VOLLBILD is the new investigative research format from SWR
Forest fires, steppes, dry rivers
That was the drought of the century in Germany. The summer of 2022 has left clear traces. While it used to be taken for granted that there was an abundance of water, it is now clear that we are running out of water. Its getting close. And we should all save! Crop failures, dying forests, impending distribution battles. Some cities and municipalities are already requiring their residents to save water.
But who actually uses the most water?
Journalist Benedict Wermter, together with the Correctiv research center, is tracking down the water shortage.
- Who should really be required to save?
- Is it enough if we all shower less?
- Or should politics actually intervene somewhere else? For example in industry?
