Buying a puppy: A special form of internet fraud was reported yesterday.

A woman from India wanted to buy a dog from an internet seller. For this she paid over 800 euros in advance, and she did not receive a dog. Ultimately, the alleged puppy purchase was a form of scam .

While looking for a small dog, the injured party became aware of an advertisement on an internet platform that offered golden retriever puppies for 585 euros. You could choose a puppy from several photos.

She contacted the supposed breeder for the puppy purchase via WhatsApp and agreed with her to receive the dog on October 9th, 2019. However, this was still in Hamburg and should be taken by plane to Cologne and from there transported to Inden.

High deposit for puppy purchase

The first step was to transfer a deposit of 300 euros. After the down payment was made, the injured party should transfer money again for the transport box, vaccination and security. This time a sum of more than 500 euros.

The Indian woman also transferred this sum and then received an email from an alleged transport service that was supposed to transport the dog from Cologne Airport to her home address. Since this didn't happen, she contacted the company mentioned and was told that they had problems at the airport and that another 275 euros had to be transferred to make the transport possible.

Typical scam

Here the injured party became suspicious and researched the transport company on the Internet. She discovered that she had apparently fallen victim to a scam when she bought the puppy and filed a report.

The police advise general caution when making purchases on the Internet, especially in transactions where payment is made in advance. If possible, find out about the provider of a product online in advance. Fraudsters often lure their victims with comparatively low prices. If you have any doubts, please refrain from contacting us. If you become a victim of fraud, report it.
