A creepy photo of a large dog-like creature makes social networks uncertain - is it perhaps a werewolf or was it just someone making a joke?

The story behind this photo is as follows:

image

This werewolf is said to have already killed two dogs in a village.

Short and sweet, but there are a number of inconsistencies that make us have serious doubts about this story.

What does the fact check say?

On the one hand, the location of the event changes: once the creature was said to have been spotted in Santa Fe , another time in Esquina (both in Argentina).

On the other hand, the eyewitnesses believe that it is a large dog that is suffering from mange (skin disease in dogs) ... Nevertheless, even if the myth of the werewolf fascinates many people, there is a very banal explanation for this photo:

It's a HOAX , specifically a photo manipulation!

Because this “dog” already looks familiar to fans of the “Harry Potter” films. No wonder, because this creature even has a name and yes, it is a werewolf! Just a fictional character.

It is “Remus Lupin” who turns into a werewolf when he sees the full moon. On the website Pottermore there is a picture of a werewolf in exactly the same pose - coincidence? Probably hardly, because the figure looks 1:1 similar to the one in the photo.

Rüdiger from our “Image Forensics” department simply tried it out himself:

He placed the concept art over the photo and lo and behold, the shape fits except for one small error, which Rüdiger explains as follows:

They compressed the wolf a bit to assemble it. I set it to 42% opacity:

Others also doubted the credibility of the photo and came to the same conclusion, for example as explained in this video:

Result:

It is image manipulation. This werewolf only exists in the world of Harry Potter and his friends.

No “giant dog-like creature” has been seen in Argentina killing traditional dogs. This story is fictional.
