The controversial FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will be held in Qatar from November 20th to December 18th and fraudsters are now also taking advantage of this event on WhatsApp!

First of all: There is no “50 GB INTERNET FLAT” here. Even if you receive this message from an existing contact, it is originally a fraudster who is either after your personal data - or, in the worst case, wants to install a malicious program on your cell phone.

It's this WhatsApp message titled: "Free 50GB data plan on all networks"

If you follow the link, you have to answer different questions and send the message again and again to existing contacts in your list. With this function you will then receive this message from someone you know. And many users just trust that if a friend sends something, it can't be bad.

Once you have sent these messages to enough contacts, new browser windows will open again and again. Including a competition form, where in the end it's all about exploiting private data sets in order to sell them again at the end, or in the worst case, a dubious app with a Trojan horse hiding behind it wants to be installed on the smartphone! In the end, neither has anything to do with the original message. This only serves as a lure!

Conclusion: The promised 50 GB of Internet is a lie. The aim of the scam is to get users to take part in a competition or to have numerous apps installed on their smartphone at the end. The message itself has absolutely nothing to do with the company WhatsApp and even if a friend sends you something like this, it did not come directly from him, but he himself was a victim of this nasty scam.
