“But that’s okay?” – Yes. It is currently possible to use WhatsApp on your smartphone and on the desktop. In the future, you should be able to use one account on multiple smartphones through Companian mode.

What is WhatsApp Companian Mode?

WABetaInfo published information about this on its blog and referred to it on Twitter:

“The time has come: WhatsApp releases the Companian mode for Android in the beta version!
Thanks to the new Companian mode, some beta testers can finally link their existing WhatsApp account to another phone!”

And that's exactly what it's all about. Previously, you could only install and use the app on a smartphone with an account or a mobile phone number. There is also the option of using the web or desktop version, which allows you to access or compose your messages on tablets or PCs.

This new feature sets a primary device for a WhatsApp account. You can then add additional smartphones as “companians”. The chats are synchronized across all linked devices.

Beta testers check the function

As WABetaInfo writes, Companian mode has already been activated for some beta testers.

As with the desktop version, adding additional devices works by scanning a QR code in the menu under “Linked devices”. Up to four devices can be linked.

Beta version 2.22.24.18, which includes this feature, is currently only available for Android devices.
