Munich court bans popular apps!

WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Facebook Messenger are currently infringing Blackberry patents, the Munich district court has ruled. First of all as direct information, as many media outlets have once again used very unsettling titles on this topic: A Facebook spokesman informs us that it is unlikely that the apps offered will be switched off. “We plan to adapt our products accordingly so that we can continue to offer them in Germany.”

Parts of the software would violate patents that Blackberry holds, reports the “ Süddeutsche Zeitung ”. This has serious consequences for the company Facebook, as the apps in question may no longer be offered in their current form

A spokesman for Facebook reacts: “The rulings actually prohibit, among other things, the offering and marketing of the aforementioned applications in the Federal Republic of Germany for use in the Federal Republic of Germany.”

Facebook forced to act

A spokeswoman for Facebook said four BlackBerry patents were banned according to the Munich ruling. The judgment is not yet final, but is “provisionally enforceable”. A spokesman for Facebook, in turn, told the “SZ” that Facebook would probably appeal against the ruling. The company could be forced to take immediate action.

In the event that Blackberry deposits a sum of money with the Munich judiciary or with Facebook as a guarantee, Facebook will be forced to act. In this case, the court ban would have to be implemented immediately. The amount deposited by Blackberry is considered security that the Higher Regional Court will give in to an appeal by Facebook. Blackberry is then obliged to compensate for any damage that may have already been caused to Facebook.

Fear of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram being shut down?

According to a Facebook spokesman, it is unlikely that the apps offered will be switched off. “We plan to adapt our products accordingly so that we can continue to offer them in Germany.”

It is still unknown whether and in what way the Facebook Group's applications will be changed.
