WhatsApp seems to be becoming more and more similar to other meta-services. At least that's what the new planned features for the messenger app suggest.
Reactions in chats
It should soon be possible to like posts in chats or add a different emoji. On WhatsApp, this feature will be called “Reactions,” which should be available for iOS and Android in the next few weeks.
Reactions to status messages
As WABetaInfo reports, the possibility of reactions should not only be available in chats, but also be possible in status reports. With the so-called “Quick Reactions” you can quickly send an emoji when a status update is displayed on WhatsApp.
This function is comparable to the ability to react to stories on Instagram. There will be eight emojis available here: a smiley with heart eyes, an amazed, laughing and crying smiley, clapping and praying hands, the number 100 and a confetti bag. The only difference to Instagram: the flame symbol available there gives way to praying hands.
It is currently not clear when the launch will take place, but this function could be available in the next few weeks.
Status updates directly from the chat list
In another blog post from WABetaInfo you can read that WhatsApp wants to imply another Instagram function. In the future, you should be able to view status messages from a WhatsApp contact directly from the chat list. In order to notice which user has set a current status, their profile picture is surrounded by a circle. If you tap on the profile picture, you can see the respective status.
Again, no release date is known yet, development is still ongoing, as WABetaInfo notes.
