In a blog post, WhatsApp or its parent company Meta announces that avatars will be introduced in WhatsApp today. These digital images of users have been available on Facebook for a long time and are used by many as profile pictures and stickers.
Profile picture or sticker
Your avatar is a digital version of you that can be created from countless combinations of different hairstyles, facial features and outfits. On WhatsApp you can now use this as your profile photo or choose one of 36 personalized stickers that reflect many different emotions and actions.
Sending an avatar is a quick and fun way to share feelings with friends and family. It can also be a good way to represent yourself without using a real photo to make it seem more private.
Creating your “digital self”.
To create your own avatar and give it your own personal and distinctive look, go to “Settings” in the menu.
Here you select “Avatar” and go to “Create your avatar”.
You will now be guided through the process, which you will end with “Done”. Now you can use your “digital self” as a profile picture or sticker.
If you no longer want to use it, you can delete it again in the same menu.
If you use it as a profile picture, the same data protection settings apply as for other profile pictures. If you want to change who can see this, you have to adjust it accordingly in the data protection settings.
WhatsApp also notes the continued development of this feature and will continue to deliver style improvements such as lighting, shading, hairstyle textures and more that will make digital images of themselves even better over time. In the future, it will also be possible to create shared “multi-avatar stickers” with your contacts.
