A quiet vibration, a notification: a WhatsApp message from Winona, a supposed HR consultant. She beckons with a job offer.

But instead of a familiar contact or a real job offer, it's the latest scam to hit Germany.

“Job offers” directly in your inbox

Imagine receiving a job offer straight to your phone – tempting, right? But these apparent opportunities are actually traps set by sophisticated cybercriminals who are after your data.

A game of trust

Reddit user CartoonistPk showed courage and jumped at the offer, only to discover that there is more to the offer than meets the eye. Attempts are made to gain the trust of the victims with promises of flexible working hours, good pay and other details. But woe betide anyone who asks for further information via email – the conversation ends abruptly.

Not just in Germany

Despite the English messages, the fraudsters seem to have a particular eye on Germany. But what's really behind it? An infected file, trying to get personal information? That remains her dark secret for now.

Better safe than sorry

The best advice in such situations: be careful. Block unknown numbers and never click on links or download files from dubious sources. A good antivirus program can work wonders and protect you from such sneaky attacks.

Conclusion

In a time when communication and various job offers are omnipresent, we have to be more vigilant than ever. This new scam on WhatsApp is further proof that tempting offers often hide a dangerous game. Stay curious, but always with caution and healthy suspicion.
