Help!! WhatsApp wants to delete all my data!?
Since we are currently receiving more inquiries, we are dedicating ourselves to this topic again.
It's about WhatsApp's new guidelines:

November 12, 2018 could be a day of unpleasant surprises for you. All old chats on Whatsapp will be gone if you haven't backed them up first! We'll explain what you need to do to prevent this.
The fact check
As of November 12, 2018, new guidelines will apply regarding the storage of WhatsApp content.
In August 2018, Google sent out emails saying that due to a new agreement between WhatsApp and Google, WhatsApp's backed up content will no longer count toward your Google Drive storage quota.
... These guidelines apply to all users as of November 12, 2018, although the storage space release may become noticeable for some earlier. To ensure that no backed up content is lost, we recommend manually backing up WhatsApp content by November 12, 2018.
Colleague Ralf further describes:
The email also contains a link that leads to WhatsApp's FAQ page and shows the text of the email again in English, as well as a request to back up the WhatsApp client before October 30th in order to update content that has already been backed up .
What does this mean for me?
Google Drive is cloud storage. This means that each user basically has 15 GB of storage space available online to store files. WhatsApp has previously used these 15 GB. This led to problems for some users when a lot of videos and pictures were posted via WhatsApp: Then the backups are easily several gigabytes in size. The result: These 15 GB shrink quite quickly and at some point the storage space is used up.
Now Google and WhatsApp have reached an agreement:
In the future, your WhatsApp data will no longer be counted towards this storage space! That's good, so you have the full 15 GB of storage space again.
In order for Google and WhatsApp to be able to do this, the “legacy” on the Google Drive storage spaces must first be deleted. This is exactly why Google asks you to back up old data, as anything over a year old will be deleted.
And how do I do that?
If you no longer need this old data, you don't have to do anything. The data will then simply be deleted from your Google Drive at the beginning of November.
However, if you want to keep the data, you just have to update your backup. Then the backup will have a current date and will not be deleted from Google Drive.
Although the data is also stored locally on the smartphone, the data would be gone if you got a new smartphone. That's why it makes sense to back up your data occasionally or set up a regular backup in the settings.
