Once again, WhatsApp users are receiving an “urgent” warning from one of their contacts.
This time from the “highly aggressive Martinelli virus”, which is said to be hidden in a video clip and can supposedly paralyze the smartphone in 10 seconds. And hey presto, panic spread, spread, spread fear, but of what?
Before a (this time) harmless chain letter.
This chain letter was shared millions of times in Spain, Italy and Great Britain and has now also been translated into German.
The police in Spain gave the all-clear in July 2017:
Circula por #WhatsApp este mensaje advirtiendo sobre el “vídeo de Martinelli” #Stopbulos , ✋no lo compartas https://t.co/TtAb0aYNUE pic.twitter.com/R4aOovWAo3
— Policía Nacional (@policia) July 29, 2017
So the warning about this virus is fake.
Neither the virus nor the video exists. Please do not redistribute, but delete. And inform the contact(s) from whom you received the warning.
Stop the chain letter!
The general rule is: always be careful what you click on or forward on WhatsApp, even if a friend sends something via Messenger. Chain letters are not always as harmless as this one. Phishing attempts, data theft and Trojans can also be hidden behind it. If you are unsure: Forward the WhatsApp chain letter to our WhatsApp number: +43 660 228 74 20 and we will analyze it.
