"Do you want to be my girlfriend? Come with me, there at the front of the house..” A voice message is currently being distributed on WhatsApp reporting on an alleged kidnapping.

In it, a mother who is supposedly in shock reports on the near-kidnapping of her daughter by Syrian women in a swimming pool. There are also suspicions about a new scam and warnings that young women have recently started addressing children with “Do you want to be my girlfriend?” “Come with me, there’s a house up front.”, whereupon the children go along.

Not only we, but also the police received a lot of inquiries about this voice message. The police can clarify this, a status message on Facebook reads:

“We are currently receiving increasing requests to work in the Gropiusstadt combination pool, also known to many as Lipschitzbad. The fact is: According to current investigations, the experience described by a young mother in a WhatsApp voice message does not provide any evidence of a crime. We from the social media team spoke to the mother today and asked her how she viewed what happened with some emotional distance.

The young woman was in the bathroom with her 4 children on Friday. Of course, she tried to keep an eye on them around the clock. That didn't work for a few moments. Suddenly her six-year-old daughter disappeared. After a short time she recognized her because of her eye-catching bikini and that she was accompanied by two young girls.

Overwhelmed by her emotions after moments of fear, she assumed that the two girls had wanted her daughter something bad. In a short and friendly conversation, they emphasized that they just wanted to play with each other. Her daughter also confirmed this to her, said the mother. However, that same evening she spoke to her urgently about not being allowed to go with strangers.

An uneasy feeling as a result of the shock she had experienced and thoughts of what could have happened were what drove her to describe what happened shortly afterwards in an emotional voice message in the class chat group.
Today she told us that it was only afterwards that she realized how misunderstood it had been and how it had been blown up . That wasn't her intention, she just wanted to remind everyone how important it is to keep an eye on your own children."
