Is opening this message like Pandora's box?
We are currently receiving inquiries about a WhatsApp message that unsettled many users at the beginning of March last year.
An unknown number is supposed to send a picture of a blind baby. Just by opening the message, a virus is said to be transferred to the device:
“Hello, I got the following message on WhatsApp today: If you get a picture of a blind baby from an unknown number, don't open the message, it's a virus!
Send this to all your contacts!!! It's definitely just another piece of fake news, right?
Thank you very much and kind regards “
Is it true? Should I be afraid of the photo of the blind baby?
Apparently they had to send a picture of a baby so that the infant, who was supposedly blind, could get an operation!
The WhatsApp message reads: “Be sure to forward this picture! This baby is blind. WhatsApp counts how many times it was shared and then pays for the operation!”
So neither is true!
There is no mechanism on WhatsApp (at least not an official one) that makes it possible to control how often a message with the same content has been forwarded! And WhatsApp doesn't pay for operations either , nor does Facebook.
Pictures of children who are supposed to have different operations for various illnesses are being shared on Facebook again and again if they just share, like and comment vigorously.
Everything was bogus and a lie. It's all just an unnecessary chain letter.
What should I do if I receive a chain letter like this?
Quite simply, break the chain by not forwarding the message!
