Often it is pure text, sometimes it is about supposed competitions. To combat this, WhatsApp has come up with something!

Two arrows can be a clue

Messages that are frequently forwarded are marked on WhatsApp with two arrows and the note “frequently forwarded”. This may indicate that it is a chain letter that may pose a threat. However, the more or less funny photos and videos that are probably known to everyone and that we keep receiving from friends and family are usually only marked with a single arrow and the word “forwarded”.

What does “frequently” mean?

According to “WABetaInfo”, a message is considered “frequently forwarded” if it is sent to five contacts. Previously, WhatsApp only marked the message with two arrows once content had been shared 20 times via Messenger. This limit has now been reduced to protect users from phishing and the spread of false reports. If a message has already been recognized as “frequently forwarded” by WhatsApp Messenger, it can only be shared with another chat.

Be careful!

If you receive such a WhatsApp message marked with two arrows and possibly asking you to follow a link, you should pay attention! If in doubt, it is often helpful to take a look at our website or do other research on the Internet before disclosing your data to strangers.
