After a future update to the app, users will see a “Secure your account” section to remind users to enable two-step verification. WABetaInfo has published a blog post about this.
Two-factor authentication on WhatsApp
Like many other services, the popular messenger service also has the option to set up two-factor authentication (2FA).
In the future, messenger users will probably be made more aware of the need to activate this security setting. A kind of “reminder” to use this security setting is currently being developed.
In a section that appears, users receive a note about two-factor authentication:

“Set up two-step verification for extra security.
With two-step verification, you use a PIN along with an SMS code when you transfer your WhatsApp number to another phone.”
The screenshot shows that you can also skip setting up the two-step verification (“SKIP”). Users are by no means forced, but there is a clear recommendation for action.
In development
According to WABetaInfo, the “Secure your account” section is under development. There is no information yet as to when this will be available. It is only known that this notice will be displayed to users who have not yet activated two-step verification after a future update to the app.
