WhatsApp plans to end support for iOS 10 and 11 by the end of 2022. If you use an iPhone 5s , iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s , you can still use WhatsApp on your phone. However, if you are using an iPhone 5 or an iPhone 5c , then you should upgrade.

WhatsApp currently requires at least iOS version 10. This is set to change from October 24, 2022. From this point on, it is only possible to use the service with iOS 12 or later.

Means: iOS 10 and 11 are no longer supported. This affects users who use an iPhone 5 or 5C or older. Users with an iPhone 5S or SE can also use Messenger after October 24, 2022.

This screenshot shows that WhatsApp will stop supporting iOS 10 and iOS 11 after October 24, 2022. This is also confirmed by an information in WhatsApp's official help center ( HERE ), where iOS 12 and newer versions are mentioned as supported and recommended operating systems.

Why does WhatsApp even do this?

Removing support for certain iOS versions is necessary to support the latest features of WhatsApp. When you update to a current iOS version, you also benefit from the latest security patches, so it is always recommended to update iOS.
