Because WhatsApp is currently working on the possibility of transferring its chats directly from Android to Android. WABetaInfo writes on Twitter: “WhatsApp is working on moving chat history to a new Android device for a future update to the app!”

WhatsApp: Chat Transfer

The new function in version 2.23.1.25 is intended to make switching to a new smartphone easier. In the future there will be the option “Chat transfer to Android” in the settings. This saves you the previous route of cloud backup of your chats.

According to the screenshot, it will be possible to prepare the chats for transfer to another Android cell phone directly in the app on the cell phone.
You install the app on this and then scan the QR code to find your chats here as usual. It is therefore no longer necessary to back up the chats via Google Drive in order to restore them from here.

Nevertheless, it is advisable to keep making backups in order to be able to keep important chats or those that you simply do not want to lose.

It is not yet known when the “Chat Transfer” function will be rolled out and whether it will also be available for iOS.
