Is Adidas giving away 2500 free pairs of shoes? Many WhatsApp users are currently receiving this notice from their own acquaintances.
Unfortunately, we have to make it very clear at this point: This is dangerous spam that can end up being expensive ! Here people are deliberately deceptive and potential participants are misled. Interesting at this point: We have not only observed this fake competition scam for Adidas items, but the same process also applies to the “Milka” and “Haribo” baits.
These attempts at deception all have something in common: they contain a web address, which initially appears to be the real address of the respective company. If there weren't a barely noticeable difference...
This is how the deception works!
You receive a message from a contact via WhatsApp! Since the message comes into the inbox via your own contacts, fraudsters are exploiting a relationship of trust. This may lead to the report being believed.
A quick check shows the first clue here (we have marked it with an arrow in the picture above: look for the “i” for “Adidas” in the link). This is not the classic “i”, but a special character. A trick was used here to give the impression that it was the official “Adidas” website, which is not true.
If you follow this link in good faith, you will find yourself on a website that involves the visitor in a fake competition. A few questions appear here, the answers to which are completely irrelevant. No matter which answer you click, you will always be named the winner.
This is also intentional, because it is the pseudo-editorial part of a competition, which in the next step aims to first make the participant a multiplier and then a victim of the fake competition.
As already indicated, a congratulation appears. You get a pair of shoes, but you have to invite 20 contacts to this competition. Conveniently, there is a button that leads to the WhatsApp contact list. You can only get the shoes if you give the fake competition a certain virality by sharing it.
Here, of course, you voluntarily become an instrument of fraudsters. A bland aftertaste: in front of your own friends, to whom you pass on the competition, you are of course exposing yourself in a certain sense.
The greater danger!
However, the greater danger (apart from the small embarrassment of virality) lies in the alleged preservation of the shoes. Of course there are no shoes here, but you are directed to a commission program. In our analysis case, this was a subscription service worth $49.90 per month !
Important to know: Adidas has nothing to do with this fake competition, the subscription service or the WhatsApp messages sent! Here only the name of the sporting goods manufacturer is used as bait.

We therefore advise you NOT to take part in this viral fake competition!
