Can you win a free case of Red Bull worth €200 via WhatsApp? Be careful of this WhatsApp message!

A large wave of spam is currently flooding many WhatsApp accounts: fake competitions that promise products from well-known manufacturers. So far we have found fake competitions regarding Haribo, Milka and Adidas products. Red Bull must now also be included in this list.

We warn: these promises of winnings are dangerous spam that can end up being expensive ! Here people are deliberately deceptive and potential participants are misled. These attempts at deception all have something in common: they contain a web address that initially appears to be the real address of the respective company, but in detail there is always a small deviation from the original.

MIMIKAMA

This is how the deception works!

You receive a message from a contact via WhatsApp! Since the message comes from your own circle of contacts, a certain relationship of trust is exploited. This leads to the report being believed under certain circumstances. The URL check: Here we play with the country abbreviation in the URL. The address redbull-de.com gives the impression that it is the official “Red Bull” website, but this is not true.

The same applies to this fake competition as to the related fake competitions: If you follow this link in good faith, you will end up on a website that involves the visitor in a fake competition. A few questions appear here, the answers to which are completely irrelevant. No matter which answer you click, you will always be named the winner.

This is also intentional, because it is the pseudo-editorial part of a competition, which in the next step wants to make the participant first a multiplier and then a victim of the fake competition.

As already indicated, a congratulation appears. You get the box, but you have to invite 15 contacts to this competition. Conveniently, there is a button that leads to the WhatsApp contact list. You can only get the box if you give the fake competition virality.

Here, of course, you voluntarily become an instrument of fraudsters. A bland aftertaste: in front of your own friends, to whom you pass on the competition, you are of course exposing yourself in a certain sense.

The greater danger!

However, the greater danger (apart from the small virality embarrassment) lies in the promise of winning the Red Bull box. Of course there is no box here, but you are directed to a commission program. This commission program can vary, sometimes you end up in an affiliate competition, sometimes in a subscription service. We therefore advise you NOT to take part in this viral fake competition!
