With the new status function, WhatsApp Messenger is becoming more and more similar to the features of Snapchat and is apparently foregoing a very popular category.

Many people ask themselves the question: Where can I find my contacts now?

As 'RP Online', 'Computer Bild' and the WhatsApp Blog report, there is an innovation for the popular messenger that not everyone might like.

The developers of WhatsApp rely on status posts ala Snapchat in that the static or moving, spiced up status posts disappear from the screen after 24 hours.

What many users are now having problems with is not necessarily the adaptation to other social media platforms, but rather that the contacts tab has been replaced in favor of status.

Finding contacts is now a little more complicated than before:

The new status function

According to the WhatsApp developers in the blog, WhatsApp was originally intended to inform family and friends about what you were doing.

So 8 years later, they thought it would be a good idea to go back to that origin to keep their friends updated.

If you are in the Status tab, you can take a photo or video or select existing photos or videos or select an animated GIF from Tenor's database (iPhone only) and decorate and spice it up with emojis, text or paintings.

Only your own contacts can see these status posts, although you can also create a blacklist or whtielist here to sort out who can actually see the message. (But no longer applies to messages that have already been sent.)

After 24 hours, the status message simply disappears and is very reminiscent of a Snapchat principle.

The old status messages have been deleted without replacement.

The Facebook subsidiary WhatsApp was bought by the social media giant a good two years ago, but has remained a no-frills messenger that shines as a replacement for SMS, while Facebook Messenger was further developed with multimedia functions.

Not everyone is happy with the innovations

According to Computer Bild, very few people are happy with the new feature.

After 8 years, people had gotten used to the simplicity of the messenger.
