After Jan Koum's departure, the company is considering new plans for the messenger service.
As Chip and Curved report, Facebook “wants to definitely open up WhatsApp further in the future when it comes to advertising.”
This is how David Marcus, vice president of short messaging services at Facebook, put it in an interview with the US business portal CNBC . The social media company bought WhatsApp four years ago for around $19 billion. WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum had previously been against placing advertisements on the messenger service, but a few days ago the 42-year-old left the company at his own request.
A good 1.5 billion people use WhatsApp and have not had to take out a subscription or view advertising since then. This could change soon, as developers have already been working on a new user interface.
WhatsApp Business
WhatsApp Business is also planned . This means large corporations can enter into direct customer dialogue.
It is also quite possible that WhatsApp users will soon find a similar concept to Facebook Messenger - the five most important chats at the beginning, followed by a banner about products and services that users can click on.
Push messages with advertising texts would also be possible.
