“We will hunt them” is a page on Facebook that publishes sharepics showing statements from politicians and AfD officials.

The sharepics of the “We will hunt them” page have been causing quite a stir in recent days. Many users on Facebook wonder whether the radical statements in the pictures are true.

Radical in terms of the content conveyed by the sentences on the sharepics. These sharepics, which generally resemble typical AfD posters or viral AfD sharepics, contain statements like the following:

[mk_ad]

“I really want a civil war and millions of deaths. women, children. I do not care."

Or:

“Gays in prison? We should do that in Germany too.”

Fact check: “We will hunt them down”

Even if the Sharepics visually resemble the layout of the AfD publications, the party has nothing to do with the Facebook page “We will hunt them”. According to the page information, the “Hooligans Against Sentence Construction” (HoGeSatzbau) are behind this page, who want to draw attention to the statements made by AfD politicians and officials. The ownership was confirmed to us again directly.

The title of the Facebook page already refers to a statement Gauland made on September 24, 2017 after the federal election regarding the federal government and his party's election results ( compare ).

The situation is similar with the quotations: there is at least one source reference for each article. However, this cannot be found in the description of the sharepic or on the sharepic, but rather as a comment under the sharepic.

Either there is usually a direct reference to the source or to relevant secondary literature. This is also the case in the example case above, where the comments refer to the Süddeutsche Zeitung as a source ( see here ).

What should be noted, however, is that not all sharepics generally contain 1:1 quotes, as does the example image. Some of the sentences are shortened accordingly. This also applies to the question shown in the sharepic, which Andreas Gehlmann did not ask rhetorically himself, but was a statement made by the left-wing politician Henriette Quade in the state parliament ("Anyone who practices homosexuality faces a prison sentence for it."), which he shared with him commented on the following sentence as an interjection.

It is fundamentally important to look at the sources mentioned by “We will hunt them” at this point, as the sharepics themselves provide neither content nor temporal context. For example, some of the statements are older, such as the statement by AfD man Nikolaus Fest:

We called in guest workers, but we got riffraff.

This sentence can be found on the Fest website and was published in March 2017. The preface here is the statement that “groups of Arab, Turkish or African young people” did not make room for themselves on the street (especially older people) and behaved in a primitive and vicious manner.

Apart from the individual sources that are in the comments, there is a file available for download in PDF format in which all Sharepics are provided with corresponding sources. This file can be found on the website staybehindfoundation.de .

Problem case with re-uploads

The republications of Sharepics by third parties pose a big problem. Since the origin of the statements is stated in the comments on the Facebook page “We will hunt them”, these comments will of course not be found in the new publications.

For this reason, it is difficult for many users on Facebook to judge whether the statements were actually made by the people pictured.

Conclusion

The Sharepics were not penned by the AfD, even if they intentionally adhere to the corporate design of the party publications. Some places even talk about false flags in the design ( compare ).

To find out the origin of the statements, it is extremely important to look into the comments and also open the sources. There you will find the reference to both time and content as to when and what these sentences were said.
