The days when you could rely on sources are long gone. A fake of the well-known German news portal “Die Welt” was recently discovered.
The AfD is flying high in current opinion polls and is at times the second strongest party behind the Union. Now the link to an alleged article in “Welt” is circulating on social networks, which concludes from the surveys that the Germans want: “Less NATO and Ukraine, more good things for Germany” . The title reads: “ Söder overtakes Merz: Are we the 'Bavarian chameleon' leading Germany? “
But this “world” article is made up.

Fake “World” article in circulation
Die “Welt” is undoubtedly a well-known news source in Germany. Counterfeiters took advantage of this to distribute their own content on a fake website. A supposed article from “Welt”, which is currently being shared on social networks, claims that the Germans want: “Less NATO and Ukraine, more good things for Germany”. But this news is completely made up.
How do you recognize the fake?

- Check URL: The Internet address of the fake “Welt” article does not lead to the official website “welt.de”, but to a copy with the ending “welt.ltd”.
- Verify content: A search for specific keywords from the article on the official “Welt” page will yield no results.
- Check links: On the fake site, some links redirect to the real “world” site to give the impression of a legitimate source.
What's behind the fake?
The false “world” text is likely part of a larger disinformation campaign. Our research at the beginning of 2022 showed that such fake websites mostly spread pro-Russian content and that several European countries have already been affected. The EU has already sanctions on those responsible. Meta also became active in this direction at that time. In addition to T-Online , we also HERE .
Conclusion:
It's a classic case of "don't believe everything you see." In times when fact and fiction often blur, it is crucial to be attentive and critical. The next time you share an article online, remember: a quick fact check can be the key to avoiding falling to the dark side of the Internet. It is time for all of us to remain vigilant and stand up for the truth.
