The document accuses the couple of having concluded a service contract for a competition over the telephone and not having paid the resulting costs. The injured parties are threatened with legal proceedings, a seizure at their bank and an account blocking. A corresponding form has already been prepared. This can only be avoided by transferring a mid-three-digit amount to an account abroad.
However, the couple in question did not allow themselves to be put under pressure by the letter, but did their own research on the Internet and found that several sites, including consumer advice centers, warned about the debt collection company in question.
The police warn of this scam and advise:
- Before making a transfer, check the respective claim for accuracy
- Research the respective sender companies and account details
- Spelling errors in cover letters and accounts abroad can indicate fraud
- If in doubt, contact your local police station
- Tell friends, family and neighbors about this scam
