It's just two more digits, but it can save you from unnecessary stress and fraud.

Let’s think about a written contract. Often you have to put the date and your signature on it. Many people have only ever written down the last two numbers of the year, for example 12/31/19 for December 31st of 2019. Now, in 2020, it couldn't hurt to be a little more careful.

13.1.20 = 13.1.2020

Because a simple 13.1.20 (as an example) enables fraud. If your contractual partner wants to rip you off, he could simply add a 19 or 18 or something like that after your 13.1.20. And if the contract looks like you signed it on January 13, 2019, your contractual partner could claim that you haven't paid anything for a year. At worst, he might try to sue you for money.

Admittedly, you have to be pretty hardened to do that, and so far it's a theoretical construction. But with the tiny effort of writing two more digits, you can prevent such fraud.
