Imagine you want to take part in an Edeka competition, but suddenly you can win a Lidl voucher. You'd be suspicious too, wouldn't you? But you should stay away from it beforehand, because the “Edeka Germany” pages that have appeared in the last few weeks are anything but serious!

Alleged competitions in the name of Edeka

This is what the “competitions” on the sites look like:

MIMIKAMA
The “competition” from Edeka Deutschland on Facebook

If you comment on the “competition”, you have already shown one thing to the creators of the fake pages: namely, that you are naive. The pages have only existed for a short time, have no imprint, no conditions of participation, and no contact options.

After a while, sometimes immediately (depends on the scammer's bot settings), every (!) comment is congratulated on having qualified for the “competition”.

Of course, the “official link” for registration does not lead to the official Edeka website, but to a page created on Google Sites that only visually pretends to be from Edeka. There is a button on this that you should click to register.

A fake Edeka page

Now that we've reported the site to Google for abuse, let's take a look at what's behind the registration. And this is pretty embarrassing (for the data collectors):

MIMIKAMA
From Edeka to Lidl

Lidl?
Didn't we actually want to win an Edeka voucher? Who is actually behind the “competition”? Definitely not Edeka, as we can read in the small print:

MIMIKAMA
The real organizers: Not Edeka, but Zooloo LLC

Zooloo LLC has an office in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.

MIMIKAMA
The organizers are based in Georgia

From there, “competitions” are constantly organized and the names of large department store chains are used, which have nothing to do with it. The aim of the whole thing: collect data!

A lot of money can be made with the data that the company receives from the unsuspecting participants, because anyone who takes part in such false competitions can be sold to even more - and so the participants very quickly receive a lot of spam in the email Calls about alleged lottery winnings, but in order to receive them you have to take out a magazine subscription (and that's just the harmless version).

We therefore advise you not to take part in such “competitions” or to comment there (“Maybe there is something to it, it won’t do any harm”), because by doing so you will show the organizers that you are easily influenced This makes you a potential target for other forms of fraud.

Also interesting:
For a few days now we have been receiving repeated user inquiries about the Facebook page called: “Coca CoIa Fans”.
We have looked at these in detail. Beware of the “Coca Cola Fans” Facebook page
