Facebook collects data from its users. This is no secret and many users know it too!
But what exactly this data is and that you can view this data is probably only known to a few users.
What data does Facebook have about me?
You can see some of the information that Facebook has about you immediately after you have logged in to your Facebook account. Your timeline, for example, shows the posts that you have posted yourself as status posts. You see your messages in your personal inbox and the rest can be found in your activity log.
But there is also important information that you don't see. This includes, for example, which advertising banners you clicked on within Facebook and much more.
Download your data from Facebook!
You can now download YOUR DATA on Facebook directly to your computer. In this DATA you will find, for example, mentioned clicks on advertising banners or other data such as your IP address, deleted friends and much more.
Where can you actually download your data?
The data and information can be downloaded using the “Download a copy of your Facebook data” function. This is in your…
⯈ Facebook settings (1)
⯈ in the “General” category (2)
⯈ At the end you will now find the item “Download a copy of your Facebook data” (3)
After one click you will be taken to the “Build my archive” page
To be on the safe side, you have to enter your Facebook password again and you will receive a download link to your email address where you can then download YOUR ARCHIVE!
What data does Facebook have about me?
Overview of the data that Facebook stores about you!
Facebook itself writes on this topic in the help section:
You can view the following categories of Facebook data through your activity log or your downloaded data (or both). We provide a brief explanation of each data category and explain where you can find this information. We store data in different categories for different lengths of time, so you may not find all of the data since you joined Facebook. Information and content that you have deleted will not be available because it is deleted from Facebook servers.
As I said, you can access most of your Facebook data by simply logging into your account (e.g. your inbox contains all your messages and chats). Please also note that the categories of information we receive, collect and store may change over time. In this case this list will be updated.
