A bag embroidered with a swastika – a sweater with a yellow star on the chest – a call for a boycott against Zara?

We received the following request:

A Facebook friend was completely outraged and shared a post by “… …”, according to which ZARA sells children's clothing with a swastika and striped bodysuits with a Star of David.
I think it's fake.
Despite all the justifiable mistrust and the awareness that hatred and stupidity know almost no boundaries, I cannot, with the best will in the world, imagine that something like this would come into the stores of a large chain. I also wonder what such a fake is supposed to achieve - artificial outrage?, but it seems so unbelievable.
Thanks in advance for checking, I'm looking forward to the feedback.

What can you see there?

A bag embroidered with a swastika.

A sweater with a yellow star on the chest. For comparison, a concentration camp smock with a Jewish star.

Below it you can read in Hebrew: A call for a boycott against Zara.

There Zara is accused of anti-Semitic intentions.

Do these fashion items really exist? And is that even current?

Yes , both the bag and the children's shirt were in the Zara range at short notice.

In addition to flowers and delicate ornaments, swastikas were also embroidered on a women's handbag in 2007. This item was immediately removed from the brand's offering after it became known. According to Zara, the swastika was not included in the original design.

In 2014, the blue and white striped long-sleeved shirt was found in the Zara online shop. According to the description in the online shop, the striped shirt with a star was supposed to symbolize a “sheriff” outfit (personally, it reminds me more of the Daltons at Lucky Luke).

The company responded to the incidents on Twitter and publicly apologized. The top was inspired by the “sheriff stars from classic western films” and is no longer available in stores.

Dear goodness – old hats

Yes, you could think so. But there is currently another similar case that means that such old hats are seeing the light of day again on the Internet.

In 2017, the US label KA Design wanted to give the swastika a positive look again.

In February 2018 there was heated discussion about the team clothing of the Norwegian Olympic team because runes reminiscent of the Nazi era could be seen.

Wide vertical stripes in blue and white are in trend this year. Unfortunately, this design is very reminiscent of concentration camp prisoner clothing and is therefore currently being talked about. This year, many fashion chains are offering summer dresses that are visually reminiscent of concentration camp prisoner clothing.
